This 1968 BSA 441 Shooting Star was acquired by its current owner in 2012, and a 2014 refurbishment by Don’s Motorcycle Restorations of Collegeville, Pennsylvania, included refinishing the bodywork in red and cream, refinishing the frame in black, overhauling the wire-spoke wheels, cadmium-plating the hardware, and rebuilding the Amal carburetor. The exhaust system, wiring harness, fenders, seat, shocks, control levers and cables, rubber components, and handlebar were replaced at that time. Power is from a 441cc four-stroke single paired with a four-speed transmission. This B44 Shooting Star is now offered at no reserve on dealer consignment with refurbishment records and a clean Pennsylvania title.
The bike was disassembled during the refurbishment, and work at that time included glass bead-blasting and repainting the frame, cadmium plating the hardware, and replacing the fenders, two-up seat, center stand, headlight bucket, and rubber parts and grommets.
The wheels were overhauled during the refurbishment with replacement chrome 18″ rims and stainless-steel spokes, and the hubs were glass-beaded and the bearings replaced. The shocks were replaced at that time. Braking is from drums at both ends.
The handlebar, control levers, and cables were replaced during the refurbishment. A 125-mph speedometer is mounted above the top triple clamp and it contains a five-digit odometer that shows 8k miles, 25 of which have been ridden under current ownership.
The 441cc four-stroke OHV single features an Amal carburetor and was rebuilt by Hermy’s Tire & Cycle of Port Clinton, Pennsylvania. The wiring harness was replaced, the carburetor rebuilt, and the valves adjusted during the refurbishment.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed transmission which is shifted on the right as well as a drive chain.
