1967 Mercedes-Benz 230SL 4-Speed

This 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230SL is said to have been purchased out of Texas in 2004 by the prior owner, with whom it remained until its 2022 acquisition by the selling dealer. Subsequent work is noted to have involved recalibrating the Bosch mechanical fuel injection pump as well as repairing the front subframe and replacing the distributor, spark plugs, shocks, and tires. Refinished in red, the car features a black soft top as well as a body-color removable hardtop and rides on 14″ Bundt alloy wheels. It is powered by a 2.3-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Inside, gray leather–trimmed seats are accompanied by a wood-rimmed Luisi steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, and a Panasonic CD stereo linked with Blaupunkt speakers. This W113 SL is now offered at no reserve by the selling dealer in New York State with a tool kit, partial service records, and a Pennsylvania title.
The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq and was introduced to the public at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. Factory finished in Light Beige (181), this example was repainted red under previous ownership. The car is accompanied by a black soft top as well as a body-color removable hardtop, and further details include US-market lighting, a retractable antenna, chrome bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets.
The 14″ Bundt alloy wheels are mounted with 205/70 Hankook tires, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. Work in May 2025 is noted to have involved replacing the steering stabilizer, center drag link, tie rods, shocks, and tires along with changing the brake fluid.
The cabin is outfitted with front bucket seats upholstered in gray leather complemented by a color-coordinated dash surround and door panels. A Panasonic CD stereo and Blaupunkt speakers have been added, and further interior appointments include a VDO clock, a heater, and lap belts.
The split-spoke Luisi steering wheel features a wood rim and frames VDO instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline as well as gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The turn-signal switch is an aftermarket unit, and the horn button is located below the dash. The five-digit odometer is believed to have rolled over and now shows 16k miles.
The 2.3-liter M127 inline-six was rated at 150 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque when new. Service performed by the selling dealer in May 2025 involved replacing the distributor, spark plugs, fluids, and various hoses along with recalibrating the Bosch mechanical fuel injection pump and performing a tune-up.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. A replacement clutch assembly and exhaust system were installed under previous ownership. Work in May 2025 involved repairing the front subframe, replacing the exhaust hangers, and changing the transmission fluid.
Various identifying markings from around the car are shown in the composite image above.
The current Pennsylvania title carries a “Classic Vehicle” brand as well as an “Exempt From Odometer Disclosure” notation.
